Both Lennart and I attended a very good Thai cooking class at SITCA (http:// www.sitca.net/) with a star chef. We made 4 dishes each, where Lennart learned how to make Panang curry paste, steamed fish with ginger in soy sauce and "Pad Thai" (Stir fried flat noodle with pork). I learned to make deep fried chicken with lemon grass, "Tom Kha Talee" (spicy milk soup with seafood) and Chu Chi curry with fish as well as fried rice. Mmm, the result was delicious! The staff was very friendly and took good care of the kids- they even made a soup and fried rice for them!

Yesterday, my father and I (Ulrika) went out to eat at the best restaurant (according to guidebooks) here at Koh Samui called "Dinner on the rocks". Brian, the Alaskan chef, is very experimental and there was fusion all over the menus. What about sushi, paella, hot dog and marshmellows in the same menu? This sounds like very simple food, but it wasn't a regular sushi, paella or hot dog I was served. The hot dog was rolls of pork with caviar on top put on a bed of roasted onion served with a mustard sorbet.... (see swedish "dagbok" for picture). The food was great as was the setting. The restaurant consists of several terraces hanging on the cliff over the sea on the very tip of a peninsula. This gives a 270 degree view! (http://www.sixsenses.com/Six-Senses-Hideaway-Samui/Dining-and-Refreshments.php) Today we went to the Fisherman's village on the north side of Koh Samui. It actually used to be a chinese settlement, which you can see in some of the architecture of the buildings. Now you can enjoy the food in some of the restaurants and see the fishermen come from a hard days work. We walked around a little and ate at "The Pier". We really liked it and will definitely come back to try new restaurants. Yesterday the swedish family that we met here came to visit us for a swim in the pool and then we went to eat at the beautiful "Jungle Club". The road to get there was very adventurous as we had to park our car at the bottom of the hill and get picked up by a huge jeep. The road was very steep and bumby (not paved all the way). As we got there we had a lovely dinner with magnificent views of east Koh Samui and their "infinity pool". Definitely a place to come back to! Yesterday we had a lazy day at the house and pool and then we went to eat dinner at Iyara on Chaweng. The sunset was beautiful- food so so. Oscar ended the dinner with a tasty banana and chocolate pancake. Lennart went shopping for new shorts, which was not an easy task as he found exactly what he wanted but they didn't have them in his size. We had to endure with him searching for his size until late at night... |
