Today we went on a djungle trek with elephant riding up to some nice waterfalls. Oscar got to sit with "the driver" on the head and said that the elephant must be "a dad as it has too much sticky hair". We stopped at the "Beach Republic" on the way home for the pool and some really good smoothies (mango and strawberry). The "Beach Republic" is a really cool beach club, where all the rich and famous go.
The kids ended the day with a broom dance. See it on the swedish blog.

Today we went to see one of the "biggest" tourist attractions on Koh Samui, which is the BIG Buddha. It stands 15m high on a little island called Koh Fan. A 200m road has been built that connects the islands. It was a very sweaty, touristy day, which we ended at one of our favourite beaches in Thongson bay. Since we came back from Koh Tao, we've been basically just "chilling" by the pool or the beach. However, both Oscar and Victor made big progress in the pool since we came back. See Oscar swim in the below video without any floating support. Victor also kicks himself forward in the pool using only armbands. See also the below video on how well they play on the beach. Our relationship to sand changed significantly since we came here.. now we don't mind sand everywhere! We just came back from a 3 day trip to the snorkling and diving paradise Koh Tao. Koh Tao and Nang Yuan together form a true tropical paradise. We went there with the other swedish family that we met, so Oscar and Victor had someone to play with (and so did we). The snorkling was wonderful, where we saw lots of colourful fish and even a little Blacktip shark! Lennart went diving (see movies on Swedish blogg), I had a nice Thai massage and we had good BBQ fish on the beach. The boatride home in the Lomprayah catamaran was less pleasant as some of us got seasick... Talking about the trip the road was also adventurous, with a very bumpy road and steep hills nothing else than a 4-wheel drive could take us to the other side of the island. See Blacktip Shark to the right in the picture! Yesterday, my father and I (Ulrika) went out to eat at the best restaurant (according to guidebooks) here at Koh Samui called "Dinner on the rocks". Brian, the Alaskan chef, is very experimental and there was fusion all over the menus. What about sushi, paella, hot dog and marshmellows in the same menu? This sounds like very simple food, but it wasn't a regular sushi, paella or hot dog I was served. The hot dog was rolls of pork with caviar on top put on a bed of roasted onion served with a mustard sorbet.... (see swedish "dagbok" for picture). The food was great as was the setting. The restaurant consists of several terraces hanging on the cliff over the sea on the very tip of a peninsula. This gives a 270 degree view! (http://www.sixsenses.com/Six-Senses-Hideaway-Samui/Dining-and-Refreshments.php) Someone wrote that it seems like we are just going to the beach and trying out new restaurants. Hmm, - well I guess that is exactly what we decided to do today as well... Excursion with a chartered longtail boat to the "5 islands", famous for collecting of nests (to make "bird's nest soup") for profitable export to China, snorkling (very good) and dining at a nice restaurant in the sunset. Today we went to the Fisherman's village on the north side of Koh Samui. It actually used to be a chinese settlement, which you can see in some of the architecture of the buildings. Now you can enjoy the food in some of the restaurants and see the fishermen come from a hard days work. We walked around a little and ate at "The Pier". We really liked it and will definitely come back to try new restaurants. Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you.... dear Victor, happy birthday to you! Today was Victor's first birthday! I think that he felt that something big was happening as he woke at 6 this morning and didn't want to go back to sleep. The big surprise today was when our 3(!) cleaning ladies came with a cake and sang for him. The Thai are really service minded and they love children. Our goal today was to buy birthday presents for Victor (he will be one on Thursday!). However, we got home 6 hours, 5 pairs of shorts (!), 3 mens underwear, 2 skirts, 1 shirt, 1 pair of childrens pants, 2 beach bags and Victors presents.. Lennart is now an expert on the short business here on Chaweng at the moment, so if there is anyone who needs a pair of good copies just let us know! Oscar and Victor managed the hot day very well or as Oscar said: " There is suuuper much to see here". Yesterday, we went to the fish market on Bang Rak beach. On display was everything from sharks to eel (live) and Red Snapper. They also sold meat and lots of vegetables and fruits for good prices. We bought tasty mangos and carrots. |
